Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 16, 2026

BrightBite AI ("we", "us", or "our") is operated by Lewis Duncan of BrightIQ.org. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign in via Manus OAuth, we receive your name and a unique identifier from the authentication provider. We do not receive your password.

Diet profiles: Dietary restrictions, allergens, and custom exclusions you enter for yourself and family members.

Scan history: Records of products you have scanned, including product names, health scores, and ingredient data.

Grocery lists and meal plans: Items and plans you create within the App.

Photos: Images you upload for label scanning or pantry analysis. These are processed by AI and may be temporarily stored on secure servers to provide the service.

Usage data: General usage patterns to help us improve the App. We do not sell this data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide and improve the App, personalise your experience (e.g., diet-aware product scoring), generate meal plans and grocery lists, and send you relevant alerts based on your preferences. We do not use your personal data for advertising purposes or sell it to third parties.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secure database. Photos and files are stored in encrypted cloud storage. We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services which may process data on our behalf:

  • Manus OAuth — authentication
  • OpenFoodFacts — product database (open data, no personal data shared)
  • USDA FoodData Central — product database (open data, no personal data shared)
  • Google Maps — restaurant search and mapping
  • AI language model — ingredient analysis and meal planning (processed server-side; no personally identifiable data is included in AI prompts)

5. Children's Privacy

BrightBite AI allows users to create diet profiles for children (e.g., for family members). The App does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13. Profiles created for children are managed by the account holder (parent or guardian), who is responsible for ensuring appropriate use.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can delete your diet profiles, scan history, grocery lists, and meal plans directly within the App. To request full account deletion, please contact us at [email protected].

7. Cookies and Local Storage

The App uses session cookies for authentication and browser local/session storage to temporarily cache scan results and preferences. These are essential for the App to function and are not used for tracking or advertising.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
